catch up

OK I am getting not very good at blogging but my excuse is that I am no longer overseas so who wants to read my stories?

But anyway I have done a couple of fairly interesting things lately so I will write about them....
A while back, Simon was seconded to Darwin for 3 weeks for work, so on his last weekend there I decided to pay him a visit. I mean really I would have never gone to Darwin - even though Joyce has been trying to convince me to get to her hometown for a while now. It was pretty tough finding any information online on Darwin which of course kick started my concerns...

While I was in Darwin we:
- visited the Parap Markets and ate the famous laksa & pawpaw salad
- went to the Wharf Precinct and ate freshly caught grilled barramundi with chips & salad. Only $9.90, 9.90, 9.90!!
- Visited the Litchfield National Park. Saw the magnetic termite mounds, swam in the Wangi Falls and Buley Rockhole.
- Visited the Darwin Crocodile Farm - home of 35000 crocodiles including the actual croc from Crocodile Dundee. We went especially for feeding time when these dudes fed chickens to the crocs. While there we thought we would feed ourselves and tried some croc. A croc burger for Simon and Croc legs with chips for me. The meat is tough and not very tasty. I think we will stick to kangaroo.
- Went to Char Restaurant at Admiralty where we had local oysters and a pretty phat steak! And of course Char was voted Australia's Best Steak Restaurant 2005.

Alrighty pictures to come, I have not been as efficient as of late as I used to be with the camera.

Cheerio!

sliding doors

One door closes, another one opens. Today is my last day with my first ever real job out of uni. I am very excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead of me and just to do something else. My horoscope for tomorrow could not give me more hope!

November 10, 2006
The Rolling Stones said it best: "I can't get no satisfaction." That's certainly how you've been feeling lately, Michelle. Indeed, looking back on your recent activities, you may feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland-running as fast as you can just to stay in the same place. The day ahead will provide some relief, as well as open up new, more fulfilling, opportunities.

my bloody great horoscope

November 3, 2006
You feel as though you have turned a corner, both financially and professionally, Michelle. Recent accomplishments have you feeling energized and on top of the world! You exude competence and confidence. It's a good feeling, isn't it? Members of the opposite sex are especially attracted to you right now. And who could blame them? You're looking great!

Why don't Aussie girls date Asian men....

The posts are irregular and backdated, I know. We have not had the internet at home for over a month so as soon as it's sorted I will do a massive update.

Anyway the question for today is....why don't Aussie girls date Asian men?

It has been become a lot more commonplace in Melbourne to see a (Caucasian) Aussie guy with an Asian girl - yes I am the perfect example, my cousin is marrying her Aussie boyfriend just before Christmas this year, Lil and Al, Luke and Mel, the list goes on and on....
However, besides Huy and Jac, I do not know many (any?) couples the other way round.

Read what someone else has to say about it here.

A couple of interesting responses to the article:

I'm a white guy dating a greek girl and in my honest opinion, Asian women, in fact any ethnic group, are a better than white girls. So I don't know what Asian men are complaining about (if they are). It seems like white 'aussie' girls have got it into their heads that it's cool to act like a bloke. Give me a petite, feminine girl who knows how to treat a man like a man any day of the week.
I like my balls unbroken thank you very much.

I have often wondered about this topic myself. I am a "white" girl, and I find Asian men to be on the whole very attractive. At uni I had a crush on a Korean guy, but another girl got to him first (and no, she wasn't Asian). Every morning there is a very attractive Asian guy on my train and I happily feast my sunglass clad eyes on him. I'd have no problem going out with an Asian guy, but most of the ones I've met tend to stick to Asian girls...

I'm white and I have a fabulous, gorgeous Asian boyfriend. He's everything i want in a man - kind, thoughtful, intelligent and sexy. He's the real deal.

Yes, I have noticed there aren't nearly as many white female/ Asian male pairings as the other way around, and my boyfriend is convinced that it's because most white women don't find Asian men attractive.

Maybe he's right. Who knows. Maybe it is because of the size thing - women like taller, bigger guys. maybe it's biological, they want to feel 'safe' or something.

Anyway I don't get it. I see lots of gorgeous Asian men.
